- Be sure to clean gutters and downspouts of leaves, sticks and other debris. This can back up snow and rain and cause siding and roof damage.
- Remove window screens for the winter season. Install storm windows if your widows have them.
- Remove all exterior hoses from house connections before the weather freezes.
- Replace all smoke detector and carbon monoxide detector batteries.
- Caulk all doors and windows as necessary, this can lead to serious heat loss through the winter.
- Add a humidifier if you're plagued with dry skin or nose bleeds.
- Consider adding a central humidifier to your furnace, or place a portable unit in a central location.
- Change your furnace filters before the heating season, and monthly during the heating season.
- Make sure that the caulking around your bathroom tub / shower is adequate to prevent wall & floor repairs.
